Summary:For the second time in four years, control of the Congo was seized by a former army sergeant - Joseph Mobutu. It happened on November 25 1965, after a quick and bloodless coup. In the turmoil of the nation's independence Mobutu had first taken power in 1960, but relinquished it to President Kasavubu. This day, it was again Kasavubu whom he deposed, thus winning a three-way fight also involving former Prime Minister Moishe Tshombe.
