  • Story Text: Online host community Airbnb has re-created the Mexico City neighbourhood from the iconic "El Chavo del Ocho" show to give fans the chance to relive their childhood memories from legendary comedian Chespirito.
    The 1970's comedy series "El Chavo del Ocho" was a smash hit across Latin America and tells the story of a naive kid from a poor neighbourhood who hid inside a barrel. It was a snapshot of life in the sprawling Mexican metropolis full of colourful characters that resonated with millions. It is widely viewed as the catalyst that helped transform Televisa into a major international company.
    The son of "El Chavo" creator Roberto Gomez Bolanos teamed up with Airbnb for this project which invites fans to submit a brief description as to why they should sleep there.
    "Very excited about this project because it brings together a lot of things, the neighbourhood of "Chavo" as a space that Mexicans identify with, playing together in a space where they live and for this Airbnb project where you can spend a night, an afternoon is cool," said son Roberto Gomez Bolanos.
    Chespirito's son will also give winners a tour of the neighbourhood where original memorabilia from the show will be on display.
    The competition follows other Airbnb experiences around the world as the online host community seeks to capture new clients.
    "For us it will be a moment, a great experience, to feel the interest of people in being here, impressive. I am sure, what I have seen when I was investigating other Airbnb experiences, in a plane, in Maracana (stadium), I would cry tears of joy to be here. I think it will be the same affect here. With that we're very happy," said Gomez Bolanos.
    Fitted in the set is "El Chavo" memorabilia as well as a television to watch a marathon of the popular tv show.

With that we're very happy," added Gomez Bolanos.
    Chespirito was also known for his character "El Chapulin Colorado" (The Red Grasshopper), a clumsy hero in a red overall and yellow trunks which inspired Bumblebee Man, the Spanish-speaking character from the American animated sitcom The Simpsons.
    The comedian stopped recording material in the 1980s, but his shows are still aired regularly today.
    The beloved Mexican comedian passed away in 2014.
