A Bahamian court sentenced Donna Vasyli, wife of millionaire podiatrist Phillip Vasyli, to 20 years imprisonment on Tuesday (November 10).
The Australian widow gave no vocal reaction to the decision of Acting Chief Justice Stephen Isaacs, according to reports.
Her lawyer, Murrio Ducill, said she is doing good and has contact with some family members.
"She's doing good. Her chance certainly improved. She has contacts with certain relatives until such time she can be vindicated," he said.
Acting Chief Justice Stephen Isaacs required a 30-minute recess after Ducill asked for Mrs. Vasyli to receive stringent probation, while the Crown suggested a 30 to 60-years, according to reports.
"The judge has to do what he has to do and then we do what we have to do. That's totally within the judges discretion and with regard to the regime of sentencing I think he has done the best he figure he can do," Ducill said.
Phillip Vasyli, who invented Orthaheel orthotics, was found stabbed to death with numerous stab wounds on March 25 at the couple's home in Old Fort Bay, a high-end community just west of Nassau, the Bahamas' capital.
Donna Vasyli was found guilty of murder on October 1. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
