- Story Text: Clashes broke out between Turkish police and the PKK's youth wing on Friday (November 6) in the Kurdish stronghold of Diyarbakir, a day after Kurdish militants ended a month-old ceasefire in response to Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan's vow to "liquidate" them.
Clashes erupted as police launched operations in three neighborhoods to remove barricades and trenches dug by YDG-H militants. Pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP) deputy Sibel Yigitalp and other party members were prevented from entering the neighborhood.
"A political party that came to power with nearly 49-50 percentage of the votes should have adopted a policy that embraces everybody, but instead they are targeting the Kurdish movement and making enemies of the Kurds by inflicting violence on them," she said.
Erdogan's AK Party won back its parliamentary majority in a general election last Sunday (November 1).
Erdogan, who oversaw a peace process with the PKK that collapsed in July, vowed on Wednesday to continue battling the PKK until every last fighter was "liquidated".
