Summary:This man invented the modern jet aero engine. His name, Frank Whittle, was carried on the first jet-propelled aircraft which ever flew, the Gloster-Whittle E-28 which took off on May 15 1941. From this machine came a military development, the Gloster Meteor, which saw service in World War II. Twenty-five years later, the inventor, now Sir Frank Whittle took part in ceremonies to commemorate that first flight.
