- Story Text: Around 145 tonnes of tomatoes were loaded on Tuesday (August 28) into six trucks heading to Bunol where the annual tomato fight is due to take place on Wednesday (August 29).
La Tomatina festival is a food fight that takes place in a small town just a few kilometres away from Valencia.
Although Bunol has a relatively small population, the festival attracts more than 20,000 people from across all borders who take part in the most famous food-fight in the World.
And for the residents, the eve of the festival is a day of intense preparations - setting up preparing wooden panels and plastic sheets to protect their homes and shops from the tomatoes and the revellers.
At 11:00 am (0900 GMT) a fire cracker signal the start of La Tomatina. And for the next hour, six trucks loaded with tomatoes will drive through Bunol's central street providing ammunition for the revellers to enjoy themselves.
About 160,000 kilos of tomatoes will be shared among the roughly 22,000 visitors, giving more or less 70 tomatoes to each participant. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
