CRAIG ZAHLER LISTENING TO QUESTION ZAHLER LISTENING (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR, VINCE VAUGHN, ON HIS CHARACTER, DETECTIVE ANTHONY LURASETTI, SAYING: "Where my character is concerned I think he is definitely conscious about people dying, about his own future, there's definitely an awareness there, which I think is realistic and also unique, it's just a choice that Zahler (director) made specifically. It works as a conscious issue, you have the two characters talking and one is obviously driving forward and the other, if it was one person it would be the conversations in one's head. As far as myself, I think it's one of the things that drew me to acting and story-telling is, when you're a kid you're very sensitive and you're aware of your surroundings and you're questioning things and wondering about different things and you're also experiencing stuff - some stuff that happens when you're not ready for it. I think you're constantly in a process when you're getting older of taking things in and taking inventory about what you are comfortable with and what you are not comfortable with and those things can evolve and change. And I think one of the great things of Zahler's writing that taps into the human experience is, it puts you in that car or those situations and maybe you would make that first decision for a friend." ZAHLER LISTENING TO QUESTION KITTLES, VAUGHN AND ZAHLER LISTENING (SOUNDBITE) (English) WRITER-DIRECTOR, S. CRAIG ZAHLER, ON THE STORY, SAYING: "I'm just really interested in doing pieces where the story goes, but the world of the story is larger than the just plot and so in this case, what this fantastic ensemble (gestures to actors on his right) and also Jennifer Carpenter and Mel Gibson who aren't here today, was able to build this much larger world and take the kind of time to show details and facets of their lives and also, where all these different characters are coming from." NEWS CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS KITTLES, VAUGHN AND ZAHLER LISTENING TO QUESTION (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR, TORY KITTLES, ON FIRST GETTING TO READ THE SCRIPT, SAYING: "It was err, it was one of those things you couldn't put down. Just couldn't put it down and I started reading it very late at night and it kept me up but I did it in one sitting and I thought (ZAHLER OFF CAMERA, SAYING: "It's not a short script.) It's not a short script (laughs)." PRODUCERS SEFTON FINCHAM AND DALLAS SONNIER ON THE RIGHT OF WHITE AND KITTLES, ALL LISTENING TO QUESTION (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR, MICHAEL JAI WHITE, ON BEING DIRECTED THIS TIME BY ZAHLER, SAYING: "It was great for me to be directed. I've been doing so many genre films and go back to pure acting with somebody who has a vision that was such a great thing for me to do. For somebody who has his own vision and to be part of that, and just like Tory said, to get out of the way from that and just let that absorb, it was a pleasure for me. That's what brought me to it."

- Story Text: No stranger to playing roles on both sides of the law, actor Vince Vaughn arrived in Venice on Monday (September 3) with new suspenseful cop drama, "Dragged Across Concrete".
Written and directed by "Bone Tomahawk" director, S. Craig Zahler and co-starring actor Mel Gibson, Vaughn and Gibson play detectives suspended after a member of the public's video of their strong-armed tactics is leaked to the media.
Short of money and without any other options, the pair turns to crime, with life-changing effects.
Vaughn told reporters at the film's news conference that his character, detective Anthony Lurasetti, has a conscious, unlike other embittered cop characters that feels "realistic and unique", crediting Zahler's scriptwriting.
The writer-director responded:
"I'm just really interested in doing pieces (about) where the story goes, but the world of the story is larger than just the plot."
Gibson was absent from the festival, but Vaughn and Zahler were joined by co-stars Tory Kittles and Michael Rai White on the red carpet in the evening.
"Dragged Across Concrete" is screening out of competition at the 75th Venice Film Festival. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
