- Story Text: The message from French President Emmanuel Macron to his ministers on Wednesday's (September 5) cabinet meeting was to hold on in the face of coming challenges, as the impact of the government's reforms would only be felt in the long term.
French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said the president maintained total determination to carry out his ambitious programme, and that the government was "hard at work" despite a shaky start to the political year.
A raft of reforms - which touch on the health sector, pensioners, and a growth plan for businesses - were swept aside before the summer break following a scandal involving an aide of Macron's who was filmed abusing May Day protesters.
Returning from the summer holidays this month, the government suffered another blow when popular environment minister Nicolas Hulot resigned, prompting a mini reshuffle that also included the appointment of a new sports minister when Laura Flessel also announced her departure. - Copyright Holder: POOL (CAN SELL)
