- Story Text:The Croatian president has implored confidence in the European idea at a meeting of the 13 non-executive presidents of the EU member states.
Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic said at the informal meeting that losing confidence in the European idea would mean to abandon the idea of solidarity and to allow Europe to be divided again.
She added that Croatia does not believe in such future for Europe.
The session on the first day was devoted to discussing the modern security challenges and the necessary national responses to them.
On Friday (September 14) the Presidents will meet in the Riga Castle, where the second working session "Europe After 100 Before" will be convened and where the Presidents are expected to discuss the future of the European Union and the role of citizens in shaping the future of Europe.
The Arraiolos Group is a meeting of the Presidents of such EU member states where the presidents traditionally do not have executive powers. The first meeting took place in 2003 in the town of Arraiolos, Portugal.
The Arraiolos Group includes Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Malta, Poland, Portugal and Slovenia.
