I remember when they made 'Thelma & Louise', they're like 'They're going to make a lot of movies now with women' but that sort of came and went. This is huge, this is a watershed in every industry and business, so let's hope it doesn't become too weird or sour or who knows?" (SOUNDBITE) (English) DIRECTOR, RON HOWARD, SAYING: "Sure, it's having an influence. It's having an influence on the way people deal with each other and work with each other which is very positive. But it's also having a creative impact. The demand for greater diversity isn't just some sort of call, it's also a demand from the public and they're proving it by coming to films and watching TV shows and telling the programmers and the creators that stories dealing with characters that don't necessarily look and sound like you are in fact incredibly viable. In fact, you feel transported. It's exciting, it's thrilling entertainment." RON HOWARD ACTRESS TIFFANY HADDISH ACTOR DARREN CRISS ACTOR FINN WOLFHARD ACTOR JOSEPH FIENNES ACTOR STERLING K. It's become unpredictable, it's become constant, it's become just a barrage of information and I think unfortunately what it means is that we miss so many pieces of information that we normally would have focused in on but at the same time what's great about it is that people are engaged in politics like never before so there's a gift and a curse to it and I think, as a person, you have to hone in on what you think is most important, focus on that and try and process that information and try and catch up on what you've missed." ACTOR MILO VENTIMIGLIA (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR, MILO VENTIMIGLIA, SAYING: "I mean, listen, I think politics in our country are very important right now and regardless which side of it you are on, you have to go out and speak your mind. It's our duty, it's our duty as citizens to speak on behalf of our views so you have to, so it probably will be political in so many ways tonight and that's good." (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTOR, JEFFREY WRIGHT, SAYING: "The heart of our democracy is our right to vote - one man, one vote, that's the core tenant of our constitution so everybody has to participate. We take for granted that our vote doesn't count sometimes but our vote counts, and I think now more than ever it's time to be heard so get out there and participate. It doesn't matter which side you're on but just get out there and let your voice be heard." (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS, ISSA RAE, SAYING: "I think when I was in college, a lot of us were like 'What's the point?'. There were so many campaigns where I was like 'whether I get out there, my vote doesn't make a difference' but right now, your vote makes a difference, so I just think that's so important to realize." - Story Text: Politics and the consequences of the Time's Up/#metoo movements dominated the Emmy 'gold' carpet Monday (September 17) as stars turned up to find out who would win this year's top awards in American television.
Several celebrities wore pins to demonstrate which cause they were supporting - a new one stating 'I am a Voter' in reference to the upcoming mid-term elections.
'This is Us' star Milo Ventimiglia told Reuters on the gold carpet "I think politics in our country are very important right now and regardless which side of it you are on, you have to go out and speak your mind. It's our duty, it's our duty as citizens to speak on behalf of our views so you have to so it probably will be political in so many ways tonight and that's good."
"The heart of our democracy is our right to vote - one man, one vote, that's the core tenant of our constitution so everybody has to participate," said 'Westworld' nominee Jeffery Wright.
Another issue on the red carpet was the consequence of the #metoo/Time's Up movements. Ron Howard, who has worked in television since 1958, told Reuters "Sure, it's having an influence.
