- Story Text: South Korea's President Moon Jae-in is scheduled to meet North Korea leader Kim Jong Un on Tuesday (September 18) on the first day of the inter-Korean summit in Pyongyang, Seoul's presidential officer said.
Moon is expected to arrive at Pyongyang Sunan airport at 10:00 a.m. local time (0100 GMT) and hold the first meeting after a luncheon, South Korea's Chief Presidential Secretary, Im Jong-seok, said on Monday (September 17) at a news conference in Seoul. The summit agenda includes promoting the U.S.-North Korea talks for denuclearisation, Im added.
Moon will cross the border into the North for his third meeting with Kim on Tuesday, amid scepticism over whether the North Korean leader was serious about denuclearisation, a goal vowed at his summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in June.
Trump last week asked Moon to act as "chief negotiator" between Washington and Pyongyang, according to Moon's spokesman, after Trump cancelled Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to Pyongyang last month. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
