For Paris's nudists, the famous three-day Humanity Festival which began on Friday (September 14), is an opportunity to raise awareness of naturism and mingle with festival goers, without fear of legal consequences or ridicule.
This is the third year the Paris Naturists Association have manned a stand at the Humanity Festival. Nudists in Paris have also been welcomed in an indoor swimming pool, a park, a restaurant and an art exhibition at the Palais de Tokyo.
The naturists of Paris have been working hard to change the way the public regards naturism and say that a distinction should be made between indecent exposure and nudity, and that nudity should be normalized, not sexualized.
The group says it not only promotes nudism but also equality between the sexes, respect for others and freedom to express oneself physically.
The Paris Naturists Association counts more than 80,000 members. There are up to 2.6 million practitioners of nudism during the summer vacation in France, they said.
The Humanity Festival has been running annually in Paris since 1930 and was started to fundraise for the communist newspaper L'Humanite. The festival attracts thousands of visitors and features, live music, debates and a wide variety of stands ranging from political, awareness raising and social justice groups, attracts thousands of visitors. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
