- Story Text: A superbike outpaced a fighter jet, a business aircraft, an electric car and three sports cars in a two-day test race at Istanbul's newest airport as part of Turkey's first aerospace and technology festival dubbed 'Teknofest'.
A challenger 605 aircraft, Turkish F16, Tesla PL 1000DL, Aston Martin, Lotus Evora, Redbull Formula 1 car and Kawasaki H2R took part in the stunning high-speed race on 400 meters-long (248 miles) runway.
The superbike, driven by former Supersport World Champion Kenan Sofuoglu, won the race outpacing his rivals by 0.04 seconds.
The airport is a centerpiece of a 15-year construction boom under President Tayyip Erdogan. It has an initial planned capacity of 90 million passengers a year, making it one of the world's biggest airports and a pillar of Turkey's lucrative tourism industry.
The airport is due open next month, but has faced plenty of criticism and protests over work conditions which unions have compared to a concentration camp. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
