- Story Text: A van believed to be carrying an Australian filmmaker who was granted a pardon from Cambodia on espionage charges, left a police station for the airport in Phnom Penh on Saturday (September 22).
James Ricketson was freed from Phnom Penh's Prey Sar prison on Friday (September 21) after a court sentenced him in August to six years in jail for damaging the country's reputation.
Cambodia's immigration department said he would be deported back to Australia.
The 69-year-old was arrested in June 2017 after he was photographed flying a drone above a rally organised by the now-dissolved opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) before communal elections.
Ricketson's family said on Saturday they were happy the "nightmare" came to an end, while the Australian foreign minister thanked the Cambodian government for his release. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
