- Story Text: The world famous rock band Scorpions riled up a crowd in Beirut, as part of its "Crazy World Tour".
The German group performed some of their most famous hits, including "Still Loving You" and "Rock You Like a Hurricane" in a concert that lasted for nearly an hour and a half.
Hoping to deliver a message of love and acceptance with their music, the band also brought "Winds of Change" to the Lebanese capital.
"As musicians, we want to tell the people, look, we are human beings and want to have more love, we want to accept other thoughts and other things and we want to celebrate together," lead vocalist, Klaus Meine said.
Scorpions started out in Hanover, Germany in 1965 and many of its hits predate some of the younger audience members who turned up at the show in Beirut.
"It's awe-inspiring that a band from the other side of the world can assemble this many people, and that the people still know the lyrics even today. Music is immortal, it does not die," said 26-year-old audience member Dana Nehme.
For audience member Shady Hraiby, having the band play in Lebanon is important because it exposes younger people to classic rock.
"For a band like this band to come to Lebanon, is amazing. Scorpions are among the legends of rock, and for them to come to Lebanon is really good and beautiful," he said.
The band has performed in Lebanon before, when it held a three-day concert in 2011 in Byblos, a coastal city in the north, which hosts an annual summer music festival.
During their career, Scorpions have sold over 100 million albums world-wide and received a string of awards, such as the World Music Award and several Echos, the German equivalent of a Grammy.
After Lebanon, the band will continue its "Crazy World Tour" in Australia and New Zealand. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
