- Story Text: A new group of Central American migrants travelling in a U.S. bound caravan stopped at Mexico's southern border city of Tapachula on Wednesday (October 31), calling for the Mexican government to provide assistance and transport on their trek through the country.
Tapachula is located near Guatemala, in the Mexican state of Chiapas. Charities have gathered medical resources and aid personnel to attend to children, pregnant women and the elderly crossing the border as part of the caravan.
With many arriving exhausted after travelling kilometres under the heavy sun, migrants are calling for transport assistance north.
Speaking in Mexico City, Interior Minister Alfonso Navarrete said the spate of migrant caravans entering the country has become a "humanitarian crisis".
According to reports, there are four caravan groups in Mexico with migrant estimates in the groups of up to 6,000 people.
Also, on the Wednesday, President Donald Trump said he's prepared to send between 10,000 and 15,000 active-duty U.S. troops to the Mexico border, and threatened to pull aid from Central American countries "immediately" to help stop the caravan. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
