- Story Text: Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said on Sunday (December 16) he did not plan to extend martial law unless there was a large-scale attack from Russia.
Poroshenko imposed martial law in some areas of the country for a month after Russia captured three Ukrainian vessels in the Kerch Strait on Nov. 25.
Russia is resisting international calls to release three Ukrainian naval ships that its border patrols fired on and seized in the strait near Russian-annexed Crimea, accusing the sailors of illegally entering its territorial waters.
Poroshenko also said Russia had withdrawn only 10 percent of its armed forces from Russian-Ukrainian border since the introduction of the martial law. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
