  • Story Text:An overnight avalanche slammed into a hotel in the Austrian town of Ramsau on Tuesday (January 15), following days of heavy snowfall in the area.
    It has damaged the hotel but fortunately none of the guests and the staff were staying at the time in the part of the hotel hit by the snow. Both guests and staff have been evacuated to nearby hotels. Most of the guests staying at the Kirchenwirt hotel at the time were Danes, belonging to the Danish skiing team.
    Emergency services were on site, clearing piles of snow from the hotel and the approaches, and assessing the damage.
    Snow has also slammed into a bus parked at the hotel parking, damaging it and completely covering it in snow.
    Authorities in Austria have issued warnings for possible new avalanches as the temperatures in the Alpine region started to rise from Monday (January 14) causing snowmelts.
