A 40-year-old Japanese paraglider fell to his death on Friday (November 4) in Kangra district of India's northern Himachal Pradesh state.
The victim, Sakuma Makoto, lost control and crash-landed while paragliding in Bir Billing, suffering severe head injuries.
He was rescued by Indian Navy personnel, present near the spot, who were also paragliding.
He was rushed to Vivekanand Hospital in Palampur, but he died of his injuries later.
"At around 4.40 in the evening, information was received at Baijnath police station about the Japanese paraglider getting injured and has been admitted in ICU. The police immediately reached the place. At around 6 p.m. he died. The Japanese embassy has been informed," said Vikas Dhiman, Deputy Superintendent of Police in Palampur.
Sakumo had arrived in Bir Billing on October 29 and had been paragliding almost everyday.
Himachal Pradesh is one of the favourite summer destinations for both Indian and foreign tourists.
Its snow-capped peaks, lush green valleys, pleasant climate and easy accessibility make it an ideal paragliding destination. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
