- Story Text: Locals of Rasgan village in Alwar district of India's north-western Rajasthan state are trying to save a Nilgai, an antelope, which has been trapped inside a deep well for the last three days.
Villagers say that the nilgai, expected to be around two years-old, fell into the 25 feet deep well while grazing in the field.
Though considered a menace to the farmers, the villagers are putting their best efforts to save the animal from dying. Villagers throw a bunch of grass every time the animal bawls.
A bucket full of water is taken down the well with the help of a rope for the animal to quench its thirst.
"We are filling water in buckets and taking it down to the well with ropes and giving it to the animal (nilgai). The animal has been trapped here for the last three days," said Bhagvan, a villager.
Villagers say that despite informing the forest officials, no one has turned up to rescue the antelope.
"The animal (nilgai) has been trapped here for the last three days. We even informed the forest officials but no one has turned up till now, so we are looking after the animal," said Surender, a villager.
The nilgai is commonly found wild animal in central and northern parts of India.
The mature male looks like an ox and is also known as Blue bulls. Nilgai are diurnal and live in grasslands and woodlands where they eat grasses, leaves, buds and fruit.
The nilgai is the biggest Asian antelope. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
