- Story Text: With a bevy of former captains around him, one thing West Indies captain Darren Sammy is unlikely to run out of in the World Cup is advice.
At 27, Sammy is one of the younger captains in the World Cup leading a team that includes former skippers Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan.
While many captains find breathing difficult in a dressing room thick with former skippers, Sammy said he would only benefit from the wisdom of his predecessors in the job.
"We have quite a few guys who have played here in the IPL and the Champions League and their input has been very valuable to us," the all-rounder told reporters at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi where West Indies will return on Thursday (February 24) to take on South Africa in a Group B match.
"We have an idea of what the pitch is going be like but at the end of the day its just an idea and we have to wait and see when the first bowled to see how the pitch is going to react."
As if an over subscription of former skippers was not enough, Sammy has also been in touch with two other former West Indies captains, while another -- Richie Richardson -- is here with the team as its manager.
"When you look at the combination of our team, we have a lot of potential match winners," Sammy added.
"We just have to put that together out on the cricket field.
"That's where it matters most, out there in a hundred overs. That's what we intend to do. Like I said, we have quiet confidence in our team."
South Africa present a stern early test of the West Indies title credentials and while his team does have some perceived easier matches to come, Sammy insisted there would be no easy games at the tournament.
"I think every game in the World Cup is a big match. We can't take any team for granted.
"We just have to believe in our own ability and go out and execute.
