- Story Text: Australia's win in the Cricket World Cup on Saturday (April 28) sparked celebrations, not only Down Under but in far away India as well.
Australia won a record third successive World Cup amid chaotic scenes as night fell on the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
World famous sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik and his team hit the Puri beach in Orisaa early on Sunday to carve out a sand sculpture in honour of Australia's victory.
Bowled over by the splendid run of the Australians, Patnaik said he had started work on the sculpture long before Australia won the final.
"Australia is such a team which won all its matches in row. We had thought of this that when Australia wins the final match and does a hat trick, we would send our congratulations from the Puri beach in a unique way. We have used seven different colours on sand to make the sculpture," Patnaik said.
Beachgoers said they were bowled over by the sculpture.
"The Australian flag has been made so beautifully. The flag is made up from sand but looks so real. Australia played wonderfully well yesterday. We enjoyed watching the match. We are enjoying the celebration going on at the beach," Anita, a local, said.
Australia, unbeaten in 29 World Cup matches since they lost to Pakistan in 1999, are the only team to win the tournament three times in a row. It was their fourth victory overall. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
