- Story Text: No casualties were reported as fire-fighting operations continued to douse a blaze which broke out on a warship after it collided with a merchant vessel off Mumbai's harbour.
According to officials, the INS Vindhyagiri was returning to the dockyard, while merchant vessel Nord Lake was leaving Mumbai harbour on Sunday (January 30) evening when the two collided near the Sunk Clock lighthouse outside the the harbour.
Captain Manohar Nambiar, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of the defence ministry, on Monday (February 31) put to rest rumours of casualties and missing crew.
"Post the accident, the entire crew was moved out so that there are no casualties. Nobody has been reported as hurt or injured, and nobody has been reported missing. There was a little amount of fire, which the efforts were on to put out the fire. However, because of the lagging, the insulation, which is kept inside the ship, excessive smoke has been generated. So, as of now, the entire area is filled with smoke. Fire-fighting is in progress using tanks and also fire tenders," Nambiar told reporters.
The warship sank in the dockyard later on Monday, the Hindustan Times reported. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
