- Story Text: Vinita Bisht, the widow of a commando with India's crack National Security Guards (NSG) who died during the Mumbai terror attacks a year ago, says she wants her two sons to join the armed forces to defend their country.
Gajendra Singh Bisht died on November 26, 2008 while fighting the terrorists who attacked India's financial capital and laid siege to prime locations in the city.
"My personal loss will never lead me to ditch my country. Both my children will grow up to join the Indian armed forces," said Vinita Bisht.
Vinita Bisht treasures her husband's wallet, which he was carrying when he was shot by the gunmen, and has placed it underneath a photograph of him in her home.
Gajendra Singh Bisht's death acts as inspiration for pupils at his old school who have joined the National Cadet Corps (NCC) and want to enlist in the Indian army.
"The terrorist attack on November 26 took the life of Gajendra Singh. His sacrifice inspires all of us in the school who are a part of the NCC to join the army and protect our country," said Sarfaraz Khan, a student of Government School, Ganeshpur.
Ten gunmen landed on Mumbai's shores by boat at sunset on November 26, 2008 and fired indiscriminately at a busy railway station, a Jewish settlement, a restaurant and two luxury hotels.
Several people were held hostage and more than 166 people were killed before NSG commandos were able to restore order on November 28, 2008. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
