- Story Text: Fans in India's eastern Kolkata city express shock and anger after their local hero and former skipper Sauarav Ganguly was dropped for the second test against Pakistan on Saturday (January 21).
Ganguly, known as one of the best and most successful captains India eveer had, has been in an out of the team to which analysts say he has become a political victim.
Ganguly, who was likely to open the innings, has been reportedly suffering from a hamstring injury as a result he was not selected for the second test in Faisalabad and instead Rudra Pratap Singh has been incorporated in the team.
Indian skipper Rahul Dravid, who had indicated that there might be changes in the team for the test before its start.
The Indians went ahead with five bowlers will all rounder RP Singh and Zaheer Khan replacing Ganguly and Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar.
Shubhankar Roy, a Ganguly fan, expressing anger at the decision said Ganguly was not being given a fair chance.
"I feel it is not good and he has been the best captain for India. I do not believe players should be blamed for the team's performance. It is not fair. He should not be dropped like this," Roy said.
Fans were of the view that Ganguly should be incorporated in the team and not rested like this.
"Saurav (Saurav Ganguly) has contributed a lot as a captain for the team. So, I think at this moment he should not have been dropped and his last performance at the Ranji was brilliant," said Dipankar Bhattacharya.
Ganguly, a veteran of 86 tests, led India to victory in Pakistan in 2004 -- their first series triumph away from home in 11 years -- making him India's most successful test captain.
After being dropped in the test series against Sri Lanka late last year, a decision that was met with protests in his home city, Ganguly was recalled to the India squad for the three-test Pakistan tour.
