- Story Text: Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited the ancient Someshwara temple in Bangalore of India's southern state of Karnataka on Thursday (November 8).
Harper and his wife Laureen arrived barefoot at the premises and were given a guided tour by the temple priests.
The Canadian Prime Minister and his wife took a keen interest in the architecture and history of the 16th century temple dedicated to Hindu God Shiva.
The couple also participated in a traditional fire ritual like 'aarti' as the temple priest chanted mantras and offered prayers for their marital bliss.
Harper is on a two day visit to the IT hub after which he leaves for Manila.
The Canadian PM is on a week long trip to Asia and has been pressing for greater openness from partners in the region to trade and investment from Canada. He has called for a serious push to complete a foreign investment protection deal and a free trade agreement with India.
