- Story Text: A line of merchandise from the new Bollywood film "Love Story 2050" was unveiled in India's entertainment capital Mumbai on Wednesday (June 18).
The film, set in the year 2050, is a romantic science fiction. It is directed by Harry Baweja and stars Priyanka Chopra, Boman Irani, Archana Puran Singh, Raveena Tandon and Baweja's own son, Harman Baweja.
"Love Story 2050" follows the love story of Karan, played by Harman Baweja, and Sana, played by Priyanka Chopra. It shows a futuristic Mumbai with flying cars, 200-storey buildings, robots and sky rails.
Director Baweja followed Hollywood's lead in launching film-related merchandise, and hoped his move will inspire other Indian films to do the same.
"I feel that this (launching merchandise) should happen with every film and if it's a concept based on the film then it's good. I think it's something which Hollywood has done over and over again and has been successful and I'm sure it's the beginning of merchandise in India at this level and we hope to achieve success," he said.
The range of merchandise consists of gadgets, pillow cases, bedsheets, cups and stuffed toys.
The cast held a press conference to introduce the products. The younger Baweja and his co-star Chopra presented the merchandise.
During the conference, Chopra expressed her excitement over her role in the film.
"There were many things in the film 'Love Story 2050' that attracted me to doing the film, one of them being that it's a futuristic film.
In India we don't normally make films where we travel in time. I play a double role in the movie which I'm doing for the first time," she said.
Bollywood film "Krrish" set the trend of introducing merchandise to boost business and lure audiences to theatres.
