Idrissa Seck, one of the main challengers to the president of Senegal, cast his vote in the presidential election on Sunday (February 24) in his stronghold of Thies.
A prime minister under former President Abdoulaye Wade, Seck is competing in a presidential election for the third time following failed efforts in 2007 and 2012.
Leader of the Rewmi ('The Country') party, Seck is representing the Idy Coalition 2019 in this year's ballot.
Incumbent President Macky Sall is the strong favourite to win, boosted by a modernising first term that propelled economic growth although critics accuse him of jailing his rivals for political gain.
Opinion polls are banned in the run-up to the vote, but a survey by a Senegalese data company in November gave Sall 45 percent support. Of his four rivals now lined up in the smallest field of candidates since 1988, none had more than 16 percent.
