- Story Text: "Captain Marvel"s Brie Larson was allergic to her scene-stealing co-star - a cat.
Goose, the companion of her titular lead character in Disney's latest Marvel superhero movie, has been getting rave reviews from critics and audiences who have seen the movie already ahead of its March 8 release.
"I'm extremely allergic to cats," Larson told Reuters. "It was the joke on set that I would do crazy wire work stunts like 50 feet in the air and no break a sweat but then if the cat was in the room I was gripping my chair."
On finding out, co-star Jude Law laughed: “I didn't know that. Oh, that's hilarious. I didn't know that. That's fantastic."
However, despite stealing scenes, Law revealed all was not what it seemed. He explained: "It's a very, very impressive kitty. I hope I'm not going to spoil anything here but if that cat does get nominated, it's not fair because there was more than one... with us there's only one of us. And I only got to work with stunt cat, I really did, I wanted to work with, but I never got to meet, real cat."
Co-star Gemma Chan added: "I handled real cat. Really well trained. Yeah, pro."
Samuel L. Jackson, who stars alongside Larson as SHIELD agent Nick Fury, told Reuters he's okay with being upstaged by an animal even if he's not really a fan of furry companions, saying: "I'm not a pet person like that but I know there are people like that and when you have an animal that's that effective in a film people will attach to them. That's why you can't kill dogs in movies, you can't do that kind of stuff so you kind of know that something there is going to snatch it from you."
"Captain Marvel" hits theaters on March 8, 2019.
