- Story Text: People across Asia on Thursday (February 28) expressed mixed reactions on the conclusion of an anticipated meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Hanoi.
Trump had cut short the summit with Kim and told reporters he walked away from the meeting because of unacceptable North Korean demands to lift punishing U.S.-led sanctions.
Some residents in Japan hoped the two leaders would have talked more on other issues, while some people from Seoul expressed disappointment that peace with their neighbour would not happen soon. One resident in Beijing thought the meeting's end was a strategy to further continue negotiations.
Both Trump and Kim left the venue of their talks, the French-colonial-era Metropole hotel, without attending a planned lunch together, and returned to their hotels without any concrete agreements made.
