- Story Text:People in Britain paid tribute on Friday (March 15) to the victims of the mosque shootings in New Zealand that left 49 people dead.
A small group held a vigil outside the High Commission of New Zealand in central London to show solidarity with the attack's victims and their families.
Sadiq Khan, the first Muslim mayor of London, said Londoners stood shoulder to shoulder with the people of Christchurch. He pointed his finger at those who promote religious hatred:
"There are some people who demonise and dehumanise people because of the faith they follow. There are some people, who rather than addressing people's fears, play on them. You have a role to play in radicalizing people to become terrorists. That's why it's really important that we demonstrate from London that as far as we're concerned, our diversity is a strength, not a weakness. We don't simply tolerate it, we celebrate it, we embrace it, and we respect it."
UK parliament also held a minute's silence paying tribute to those who lost their lives in New Zealand's worst-ever mass shooting.
