- Story Text: Hungarian army trucks full of soldiers drove through a provisional camp near the border on Friday (September 11), a day after the Interior Ministry proposed the declaration of a "state of crisis due to mass migration" as of September 15.
There have been growing signs this week of Hungary's inability to handle the flood of migrants as more than 170,000 people this year seek sanctuary in Europe from war and poverty in the Middle East and Africa.
Migrants arriving at the muddy provisional camp at Roszke have waited days to be registered and allowed to board buses taking them to other parts of the country.
Some 30 Hungarian army trucks arrived at a barracks near the country's border with Serbia on Thursday (September 10), and later this month the Hungarian parliament is due to discuss a bill to approve bringing in the army to help police the border.
New bills passed last week make crossing a 175-km. (108-mile) long, 3.5-metre (11.5-foot)-high border fence which is under construction a criminal offence and allow authorities to fast-track the assessment of asylum applications at the border. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
