Summary:In 1966, in Jakarta, Indonesia, the former foreign minister, Dr Subandrio, went on trial for his life, on October 1. Subandrio - who had previously been President Sukarno's right-hand man - was facing charges of trying to overthrow the government, and of subversion. The penalty for these offences was death - Subandrio was in fact found guilty, but the sentence was later commuted to life imprisonment.
