- Story Text: Authorities are due to end the search for Malaysia Airlines MH370 on May 29, after more than four years of fruitless efforts to find the missing Boeing 777 in what is considered the world's greatest aviation mysteries.
Flight MH370 disappeared en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014 with 239 people, mostly Chinese, on board. Australia, China and Malaysia ended their search in January last year.
Malaysia agreed in January to pay U.S.-based exploration firm Ocean Infinity, who owns the vessel Seabed Constructor, up to $70 million if it finds the plane within 90 days. Transport Minister Anthony Loke on Wednesday (May 23) said Ocean Infinity's search vessel had finished scouring its targeted search area in April and had requested an extension until May 29.
Investigators believe someone may have deliberately switched off the transponder of the Boeing 777 before diverting it over the Indian Ocean. Several pieces of aircraft debris have been collected from Indian Ocean islands and along Africa's east coast, with at least three confirmed as being from the missing plane. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
