- Story Text: Many migrants left a provisional camp in south of Macedonia near town Gevgelija by buses on Sunday afternoon (September 6).
Macedonia has organised trains twice a day to the north border where migrants cross into Serbia to make their way to Hungary.
Due to large numbers of people crossing from neighbouring Greece, authorities also sometimes have to provide buses for transport. For most, the ultimate goal is Germany, where they hope they will be able to apply for asylum and build a better life.
"Some of people go to Germany because they want to some money because they poor also, and others going for study and work and other goes to help our families and childrens and wives and womens and others. For me I will go to Finland because my friend, my family is there also I want to study in the pharmacy because I was in Iraq study for engineering but when come ISIS (Islamic State), they stopped all studying and this is my life. It's miserable," Rami, a refugee from Iraq, said.
But the last leg on their journey before they get into the European Union's Schengen passport-free zone is Serbia's border with Hungary, which Hungarian authorities have reinforced by constructing a fence and stepping up patrols, arresting hundreds who try crossing it on foot.
"Well because Germany very good country. She's help Syrian people because in our country, war, a lot of war, I mean, Daesh (acronym for Islamic State) Al Nusra (Group, everybody destroy other and destroy us," Samet, refugee from Syria said.
Macedonian authorities say that between Friday (September 4) and Saturday (September 5) around 2.100 people entered the country , manly from Syria. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
