- Story Text:Bangladeshi Muslims held demonstrations around Dhaka on Friday (August 9) in protest to India's recent decision to take away Kashmir's special status and instill a curfew upon residents.
Gathering outside the national mosque, Baitul Mukarram in the capital after Friday prayers, activists led by the 'Kashmir Solidarity Council Bangladesh' chanted slogans and held banners against Indian Prime Minster Narendra Modi's government, urging freedom in Kashmir.
Participants said India's decision was likely to encourage liberation movements all over India and also movements protesting the repression of Muslims in Kashmir.
Authorities plan to relax curbs in India's Muslim-majority state of Jammu and Kashmir to allow people to offer Friday prayers, media said, as a five-day lockdown damped protests over the withdrawal of the Himalayan region's special status.
