Summary:December 25 1966 - and in Delhi, hundreds of angry Sikhs went out onto the streets to demand government laws to forbid the slaughter of cattle - sacred animals to Hindu believers. Thirty-two people were arrested during the clashes which erupted not only in Delhi but in the Sikh stronghold of Amritsar. There, Sikh leaders were fasting - threatening to burn themselves alive unless their demands were met.
