- Story Text:Presidents of Ukraine and Belarus met on Friday (October 4) in Zhytomyr and assured each other of friendship and brotherhood.
'We could even talk in Ukrainian' - said Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskiy, while his counterpart Alexander Lukashenko replied that the two nations would always be 'the most reliable neighbors' as long as Kiev authority was willing to keep such relations.
On the way out after talks, Zelenskiy told the media that journalist Pavlo Sharoyko jailed in Belarus was pardoned and returned to Ukraine.
A Belarussian court has sentenced a Ukrainian radio correspondent to more than eight years in prison for spying in May 2018.
Belarus's KGB state security service said it had uncovered a spy ring working for Ukraine's defence ministry set up by Minsk-based Ukrainian journalist Pavlo Sharoyko.
