China has consistently supported U.S. diplomatic missions in China to carry out normal business activities in China and provided the necessary convenience. The U.S. claims that China put restrictions on U.S. diplomats were fundamentally groundless. We urge the U.S. to correct the mistake and rescind the decision. - Story Text: China's Foreign Ministry said on Thursday (October 17) that it urges the United States to withdraw new meeting restrictions imposed against Chinese diplomats.
The United States is now requiring diplomats and officials at all Chinese foreign missions in the country to give advance notice of any meetings with state, local and municipal officials, as well as at educational and research institutions, senior State Department officials said on Wednesday (October 16).
The officials told reporters the move was an effort to "add reciprocity" to the way U.S. diplomats are treated in China.
