- Story Text: French President Emmanuel Macron, asked on Thursday (November 28) about possible security risks posed by China's Huawei, said that he would never look to stigmatise any particular telecoms operator or any particular country.
Macron made the comments at a joint news briefing with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday (November 28).
He then went on to urge caution over 5G technology, saying that EU countries need to reflect on the potential consequences of rolling out the technology. "We have more and more interconnected armies, which are going to use 5G technology for interconnection. Are we sure that the integrity of the information we're sharing through this network is safe and in our own hands?†he told the conference.
Stoltenberg said that "5G will affect all sides of our societies", and that "the resilience, the security of these systems are of importance".
French junior economy minister Agnes Pannier-Runacher had said this week that France would not follow the United States and exclude Huawei from its next-generation 5G network, even though France would have the power to vet all equipment makers for any potential security threat.
