- Story Text:A Turkish Air Force plane full of aid for earthquake victims landed at an air base near Tirana on Tuesday (December 3).
Tents and mattresses were among the cargo unloaded.
On hand to officially accept the aid was Petro Koci, Albania's deputy minister of defense.
"This eases the situation a lot and it gives us optimism to successfully face this difficult challenge," said Koci.
Last Wednesday (November 27), members of Turkey's Disaster and Management Authority (AFAD) and the Turkish Red Crescent teams arrived in Albania to assist iin search and rescue efforts.
Turkish aid workers have also been distributing tents, hygiene kits and blankets, Turkey's Anadolu agency reported.
A total of 51 people were killed and more than 6,300 people left homeless in the quake that struck last Tuesday (November 26).
The 6.4-magnitude quake, Albania's worst ever, was centred 30 km west of the capital Tirana and was felt across the Balkans and southern Italy across the Adriatic Sea.
Alabania's last big quake, which killed 40 people, was in 1979 so people were ill-equipped to deal with it.
