Britain's Prince Philip, the 98-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth was taken to hospital on Friday (December 20) as a precautionary measure for treatment for a pre-existing condition, Buckingham Palace said.
"The Duke of Edinburgh travelled from Norfolk this morning to the King Edward VII Hospital in London for observation and treatment in relation to a pre-existing condition," the palace said in a statement. "The admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness' Doctor."
Prince Philip bowed out of public life in April 2018, after more than 65 years at the side of Queen Elizabeth.
The Duke had been Captain General of the Royal Marines since 1953 and served with the Royal Navy in World War II.
Since retiring from official solo duties, he has appeared in public alongside the Queen and other members of the royal family at events and church services. - Copyright Holder: FILE REUTERS (CAN SELL)
