- Story Text:Indian actor, Deepika Padukone said on Monday (December 30) her upcoming biographical film 'Chhapaak' (splash) aimed to create awareness among people about acid attack.
Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is based on the life story of Laxmi Agarwal, an Indian acid-attack survivor and activist. She was attacked by a 32-year-old man at the age of 15 in 2005 after she refused his marriage proposal.
Padukone, who will be seen essaying the role of Agarwal as 'Malti' in the film was promoting her film in India's western Mumbai city where she talked about her film.
"I think what we want to convey to the people is that Laxmi (Agarwal) and survivors like Laxmi are an inspiration for us," said Padukone.
Agarwal raised her voice against acid attacks and her petition with over 27,000 signatures led to an order by India's apex court in 2013 on regulating the sale of acid. The legal victory took her to the White House where she was felicitated by then U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama in 2014.
The film will release across India on January 10, 2020. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
