- Story Text: A firefighter was killed and at least 10 people were injured in a building collapse, triggered by a blast and fire on Thursday (January 2) in New Delhi.
The incident occurred around 04:30 a.m. (2300 GMT) after fire broke out at a battery factory. The fire then led to a blast which caused portion of the building to collapse, thus trapping several people including, fire fighters, who had entered the building to carry out rescue operations.
As many as 35 tenders were brought to the spot to speed up the rescue operation.
New Delhi Chief Arvind Kejriwal said, in a tweet, one of the firefighters succumbed to injuries sustained during the rescue operation.
In most places across India, fire safety regulations are lax and not periodically reviewed which results in major fires break out, resulting in loss of life and property. - Copyright Holder: ANI (India)
