- Story Text: Incumbent Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo on Monday (January 13) finalised her bid for a second term in office by visiting a cafe in one of the capital's less chic neighbourhoods.
Hidalgo, who has been holding Paris' top post since 2014, decided to hold her first campaign event at the Porte de la Chapelle district two months ahead of the France's municipal elections.
She said she has put ecology at the forefront of her campaign platform, adding that she aims to establish more housing in the city amid the difficulties high prices and lack of options.
According to the most recent poll conducted by survey institute Ifop on Dec. 10, Hidalgo is favoured to maintain her seat, with 22 percent of votes.
The Republicans candidate Rachida Dati and La Republique en Marche (LREM) frontrunner Benjamin Griveaux poll at 17 percent, while LREM dissident and ruling party lawmaker Cedric Villani obtained 14 percent.
Green Party candidate David Belliard polled at 12.5 percent.
Hidalgo will face 10 other candidates vying for her job in the nationwide municipal elections, which will kick off with a first round of voting on March 15 and will conclude with a second round of ballots on March 22.
