While Kanye West was playing in Glastonbury, U.S. country-turned-pop star Taylor Swift was headlining the Barclaycard British Summer Time Hyde Park Concert in London on Saturday (June 27).
A crowd of 65,000, many of them 'Swifties' (what her fans identify themselves as) enjoyed a two hour set from the star, which began with the songs 'Welcome to New York' and 'New Romantics', taken from her latest record breaking "1989" album. Fans travelled from around the world to hear their idol.
"We came from Sweden to see Taylor because we're so big fans of her and she has such a big impact on our lives and she means so much to me," said one teenage fan.
"This is such an amazing time because we're so close to the stage and I'm shaking so hard and this is like, yeah, it's the best day ever and it hasn't even begun. She hasn't even begun."
Another fan added; "She's just an inspiration to everyone and I just love her so much. Her music's just amazing. I just love her."
Swift hit headlines in the last week after Apple Inc reversed its policy and said it would now pay artists during free trials of its new Apple Music streaming service. The decision seemed to be prompted by Swift's decision to hold back her album "1989" from the service.
She had said in a Tumblr post on Sunday that she found Apple's policy of not paying artists during the free trial shocking and disappointing as it would hurt young artists just starting out.
After the reversal from Apple, she turned to Twitter to thank both Apple and her supporters, telling her 59 million Twitter followers: "I am elated and relieved. Thank you for your words of support today. They listened to us." Swift then tweeted on Thursday, "After the events of this week, I've decided to put 1989 on Apple Music ... and happily so."
Swift was supported on the night by her friend, the British multi-platinum singer Ellie Goulding. Goulding began her set with the songs 'Outside' and 'Animal'.
John Newman also played on the night, with songs 'Blame', and 'Cheating' taken from his 2013 album 'Tribute'. Newman is currently promoting his sophomore record, and lead single 'Come and Get It'.
