Looking back at all the hard work that my father has done, I feel that I have to take advantage of the path that he has carved. Seeing my dad's trajectory from afar, it's hard. Everything that happened and everything we went through, he had a childhood, the beginning of his career was very difficult. He faced many obstacles, but because of his persistence and because he's a dedicated and professional person, he got to where he's right now. So, his legacy is a huge responsibility (that I carry) for the fans."

- Story Text: Mexican singer Alejandro Fernandez returns to his roots with his long-awaited Mexican folk album "Hecho en Mexico" (Made in Mexico) and a forthcoming world tour.
"I felt that I had the commitment with my fans. It's been almost 20 years since I recorded a ranchera album, I've been singing pop music but I never stopped singing ranchero music or with mariachi, but when I got to sing Mexican music (at concerts) it was the most exciting part of the night," said Alejandro.
The 11 songs on 'Hecho en Mexico' tell stories of love and heartbreak and Fernandez said many of them were the result of late nights or guitar playing and beer-drinking.
"There are some songs which they (composers) bring to you because they know you are going to like them and others that are the outcome of what happens in a night talking and chatting between one beer and another and (playing) the guitar, a song can also come out of that. We have a little bit of everything, we wanted to give this album a rich balance and that's how it turned out, quite spectacular," said Fernandez.
The album, which is release on Friday (February 14), features collaborations with composers such as Chico Elizalde, Christian Nodal, Luis Carlos Monroy and Jorge Massias.
But the highlight of "Hecho en Mexico" for many fans with be Fernandez's duet with his legendary father, Vicente Fernandez, who has been hailed as the "King of Ranchero Music."
"He was very excited, honestly, he didn't expect it. I arrived with the album already finished, I played it, he listed to it and congratulated me. He loved it. In fact, he loved one of the songs so much that we made a duet and it's actually one of the surprises on this album. It's a duet with my father that's called 'Menti' (I lied)," he said.
Fernandez said he feels like he is carrying his father's legacy on his shoulders, something which the singer describes as a big responsibility.
"It's a huge responsibility. Looking back at all the hard work that my father has done, I feel that I have to take advantage of the road that he has traced. Seeing my dad's trajectory from afar, it's hard. Everything that he had to go through, he had a childhood, the beginnings of his career was very difficult. He faced many obstacles, but because of his persistence and because he's a dedicated and professional man, he got to where he's right now. His legacy is a huge responsibility with our fans," added Fernandez.
Alejandro Fernandez has not only carried on the tradition of singing ranchero music himself, he has also instilled it into his son, Alex Fernandez, who recently launched his own career as a singer, with the three generations of the family performing together at the Latin Grammys last year.
Alejandro Fernandez will begin his 'Hecho en Mexico' world tour on May 22 in Fresno, California. The tour includes Fernandez's first ever shows in Toronto, Canada, London and Paris.
"It's a dream come true, that's something I've always wanted. I didn't want to limit ourselves because of our language and we wanted to go beyond Latin America or Iberoamerica. It's three new opportunities that are opening and we hope that there is much more, we hope this opens new doors," he said.
"Hecho en Mexico" drops Feb. 14.
