- Story Text: A Jordanian artist is becoming increasingly popular on social media by combining his own drawings with the Amman cityscape.
Shamekh al Bluwi cuts out segments of his drawings and holds them up against a background of the city, combining the Jordanian capital with his sketch to create a new artwork.
Al Bluwi, who describes himself on his Twitter account as a 'visual artist and fashion illustrator', says the idea was inspired by other artists.
"The idea started when I used to see artists cutting their drawings and putting them up wherever they'd travel, so the idea started with putting the drawings up wherever I'd travel. Afterwards I thought to cut out the clothes that are drawn and hold it up to the background behind it and see how it turns out," he said.
"I always liked the idea of combining several layers with each other because combining many layers gives us new ideas and new shapes," he added.
Al Bluwi draws his pictures, usually of women in various outfits, then cuts sections out of it by hand.
He then holds it up to the background of his choosing and takes a picture using his mobile phone.
The pictures are then shared on social media sites like Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
"I started by myself on social media, everyday I used to draw a drawing and put it on Instagram. Then it developed bit by bit and I got followers and noticed that many people liked these artworks. Around two months ago or more, I put the first photo of this style with the cut-out and the city behind it and I noticed that many people liked it," he said.
Al Bluwi's artworks have led to him gaining almost 150,000 followers on Instagram. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
