- Story Text: Thousands of people took to the streets of Berlin on Sunday (March 8) to mark International Women's Day, protesting against violence and abuse of women and calling for more gender equality.
Protester Annett called for women to be brave and unite in order to achieve an improvement. She also turned to the men, saying: "Also men can be feminists, just take with us to the streets, if possible 365 days a year."
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said during her weekly video podcast on Saturday (March 7) that Germany had to do more to improve gender equality.
She underlined that enforcing equality would still remain an issue in Germany with a notable gap between working man and women. There was also work to be done in order to fill leading positions in politics and business with women, she said.
