- Story Text: Statues around monuments in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and Buenos Aires, Argentina have been covered with face masks to raise awareness among the population, as the countries battle the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Starting Wednesday (April 15), the use of face masks will become obligatory in Buenos Aires to enter stores and to use public transportation, according to local media.
Brazil likely has 12 times more cases than are being officially reported, with too little testing and long waits to confirm the results, according to a study.
The pandemic has led to over 1.8 million confirmed infections globally and caused at least 115,242 deaths.
